Teemapäivän tavoitteena on nostaa esille tärkeitä merellisiä aiheita ja innostaa tekemään konkreettisia tekoja Itämeren hyväksi. Päivä juhlistaa meren monimuotoisuutta ja mittaamatonta arvoa.
